FW: Safeguarding and Protecting Children Course 1st June

Dear all,

Please find attached the details of a course that is to be run in Maidstone on the morning of Sunday, 1st June.

If you attended the course on Child Protection Awareness that was run in Kent in July 2005 then you will need to consider attending this course as three years is about to elapse and, if you are a coach, you are obliged to attend such a course every three years in order to maintain your name on the coaching register.

FW: England Youth Fencing Champs 2008

Dear All

This years England Youth Fencing Championships will be held on the 5th and 6th July at the Loddon Valley Leisure Centre, Reading.

Please encourage your fencers to attend! Last year saw a record 338 fencers, and we hope that this year will be better still. We have 24 pistes, more than half of which will be metallic, and we are aiming for 100% dedicated, experienced referees, which we achieved last year.

Epee and Sabre, at U11, U13 and U15 will be on Saturday 5th and Foil (same age groups) will be on Sunday 6th. Entry is open to all members of England Fencing.

Entry forms and other details can be found at  http://www.tomorrowsachievers.org.uk/

In foil, U13 medallists and U15 medallists who were born in 1994 will automatically qualify for selection for the England TA trip to Paris in 2009. Epee winners in each age category (subject to age restrictions) will also qualify IF England TA decide to take an Epee trip to the Challenge Wratislava in Poland in 2009. At this point in time the Foil (Paris) trip is confirmed, the Epee (Poland) trip is not confirmed.

If you are able to supply a qualified referee for this competition, please reply including name, contact number, weapon and qualifications. For selected referees, travel costs, hotel and meals will be provided. Special consideration will be given to experienced young referees who wish to take their refereeing exams at the tournament.

For any other information not covered by the forms on the website, please reply to this email.

Best Regards

Ray Stafford

FW: Surrey Local Authority Sports Awards

Dear All

On the back of a successful County Sports Awards event last year we are looking to hold our 2008 event sometime in October and we just wanted to gauge when local authority and NGB events are taking place this year.

We are aware that not all local authorities / NGBs hold events, that is fine, but I want to see how many events will be taking place and be able to fit into the county event in October.  As yet we do not have a fixed date and venue but we will be releasing this shortly, we are hoping it will be mid October at the Royal Holloway University, Egham.

Can I ask that you please let me know if you have dates, provisional or confirmed so we can have an understanding of what is being delivered?  If at all possible it would be nice to see your catergory list and criteria if you have any also.

The structure of the county event will not change but the criteria for some of the awards will be tighter than last year so we can make sure we have more than 2 nominations to regional and national events.

With regards to the award categories, the following will still be included:

  • Sports Personality of the Year
  • Young Sports Personality of the Year
  • Sports Club of the Year
  • Coach Of the Year
  • Young Coach of the Year
  • Sports team of the Year
  • Young Sports Team of the Year
  • Disability Sports Award
  • Outstanding Service to Sports Award
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Young Volunteer of the Year

And this year we will hopefully be included a new award Community Sports Coach of the Year which will only be open to those coaches that have been employed and deployed through the government funding scheme Community Sports Coach Scheme.

If you have any queries regarding this years event then please do not hesitate to get in touch on the number below.

Many Thanks

Surrey Sports Awards Committee
